Sunny Bunny  2018

Picture
This time it's a bunny and an egg combined.
I used the leftover yarn after knitting a baby blanket for Zoey and made them in one day right before Easter.
Soft Purple: The colours are traditional 'Easter' colours, especially purple.
Baby Pink: Of course, I used this colour because we were expecting a baby girl !!
Girly Rosy: Rosy - seeming to offer health, happiness and joy! I love that!

Lots of eggs... or bunnies... ?!

Don't they look nice and funny?

Eastern Style for Easter Egg  2017

Picture
Eastern Style: This time, inspiration came from the Eastern culture... in Spain. Look at these Moorish tiles. The motifs are unbelievably beautiful. They are everywhere in Spain, especially in Andalucia: Seville, Granada, Cordoba... You can't take your eyes off them.
So I decided to knit or crochet this style. Surprisingly, I could not find any knitting or crochet patterns of these motifs in Spain at all. There's nothing in the magazines or on the net :-(
No worries! I made my own :-) The yarn for this holiday craft is, as in many cases, other projects leftovers. An evening of work, and here you are! An Easter Egg in Eastern style!

Picture
Why Moorish style in a Christian Easter Egg? Probably because I loved how these two different styles in Spain are interwoven into everything there: architecture, parks, fashion, etc ... One of the most famous examples of Moorish architecture, the Mezquita or Grand Mosque of Cordoba, Spain, is today the region's Catholic cathedral.

Two in One: This crocheted sleeve can be used for any bottle or container after Easter of course!

Easter 2016 Outfit

Picture
Yes, time flies, and little people grow fast. This Easter, I knitted a jacket for Amelia to match the Bunny Hat made last year. It's a combination of knitting and crochet. All patterns are very simple.
Crochet: single and double stitches. Knitting: a very popular moss stitch and my favourite cables.

I used the leftovers of the yarn I purchased last year, and even though I used all of it, the jacket turned out to be a little too small :-( Amelia 'says': "I hope, Tanya, you will get some more yarn and finish the project,
so I could have the jacket with long sleeves! Thank you"

Easter Bunny  2015

Picture
Amelia - our cutest little bunny :-))
She doesn't like to wear hats at all. This is a rare moment when the photo session was successful.

Amelia is modelling a crocheted 'animal' hat handmade by me. The idea is borrowed from the internet.

Yarn:
Grey: Italian DUO comfort classic: 52% pura lana (wool) e 48% cotone (cotton)
Pink: German Schachenmayr original: 50% baumwolle (cotton) und 50%Schurwolle (virgin wool).

Happy Easter!

April. Andes. Atacama.  Greetings from Chile  2013

Picture
Picture
he Atacama Desert in the north of Chile is the driest place on Earth. It's huge and very different in its beauty. You can see the crystal clear sky and the terracotta  mountains (kind of the Moon landscape) behind me. It's a high-altitude desert (the bus took us as high as 4,800 km.)

Picture
The Atacama is a  cold desert. The average temperatures range from 0 to 25 Celsius. One of the tours (to the Tatio geysers) was early in the morning when it was 8 degrees below 0. We didn't take much warm clothes with us to Chile. But it can be quite chilly in Chile!!  So I had to knit something! As you can see, I made these cute wrist warmers. That helped a lot! The knit pattern: cables and double seed stitch.  Crocheted edge. Plus the colors of the desert....

Artesanal Knitting: The small village in the desert - 11 houses only. The men are sheppards. The women work for tourists. Exotic yarns: To support local knitters, I bought this lama wool ski hat for my hubby :-)
La Artesania:
You can find lots products in the local craft boutiques - from alpaca knitwear (hats, mitts, gloves, scarves, and sweatersaa) to locally made crafts. Ponchos and shawls are beautiful too.
There is a natural elegance to alpaca fiber which makes it highly sought after in the textile market and with many high-end fashion designers. It has excellent thermal properties and comes in a wide range of colors. In fact, alpaca comes in the widest range of colors of any natural fiber. Because of the high demand and relative rarity of alpaca fiber, its value has remained high.

La Pascua -  greetings from Chile  2013

Hola! You will find here some Easter crafts (and some Spanish words :-)     el huevo - egg.   los huevos - eggs

Eggs and Nests   2012

Picture
Picture
April is Easter, bunnies, chickens, eggs and nests. And I thought why not try to make  some "loons' nests" in my next craft project. Their nests are pretty messy(that might justify some imperfections :-), and the bird is a true Canadian beauty. So, here we are, making and decorating nests!
These decorated nests are my interpretation of the home for a bird.
May your homes/nests/hearts be filled with warmth.

Melange Knitted Eggs:  This year I used some small additions to create some artful pieces. These small things look to me like matted grasses, rushes and twigs - everything that loons use to make their nests.
Lace and Knits: I decided to fashion this egg-filled nest with a knitted band, lace, a crocheted piece, some yarn, and other ephemera. Looks very vernal (spring like)!
Vintage Nest: This is a vintage-inspired piece with soft pastels of a crocheted egg and a vintage portrait.

April Eggstravaganza  2011

Picture

April often brings Easter. This time every year I push my knitting art to the eggstreme to eggsibit my crafts as a real eggspert.

Eggspectations:
Easter is the only time when it is a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket.
Have an eggciting Easter!
